Baraja: "We want to dedicate the victory to the victims and those affected by the 'DANA'"
The coach previews the game against Real Betis
Valencia CF coach José Bordalás reviewed the 0-0 draw with Cádiz CF in his post-match press conference.
What is your assessment of the game?
We came here with the intention of achieving a victory and we had prepared for the game well during the week. It was difficult for us to get into the game in the first half, but as the match progressed we had control, although without generating many chances during the first half. There were several shots from mid-range, a good cross from Foulquier and we went into halftime with the intention of winning. The team tried, the Cádiz goalkeeper was sensational and we had chances until the end. It's a shame. We have not been successful away from home, and we were up against a team like Cádiz CF, who defend very well and are well organied, accepting the risks of defending deep. Cádiz CF are a team who have won games working in this way. The team tried to the end. We know the point feels like little reward, but the season continues. We go into the break now, and we will see if we recover the injured players and return with renewed energy.
What assessment do you make of the team's performance so far in LaLiga?
I do not usually make an assessment after such a short time. Until we reach the halfway point of the season we cannot make an assessment of what the team are like and the growth we may have. Little by little we are adapting and improving. This is a process. I will repeat what I have already said: This is a long-distance race. The important thing is that the team continue to compete, and we know the difficulty of the division. Today, Cádiz CF, without creating hardly any scoring chances, were organised and we didn't finish our chances. That is my opinion. We will keep working and keep growing.
Diakhaby appeared in the second half. What was the change due to?
The change was because Alderete was on a card and we ran the risk of him getting a second one and us going a man down. He is working at a very high level and I am very happy with him. In a hostile environment, to which he comes back this season, with the whole ground whistling at him and messing with him, he played really well. I congratulate him. He intercepted, cleared, played the ball... I want to congratulate him because it was not easy to touch that first ball and have the whole ground whistling. It has not been easy for him, but he was phenomenal.
Do you think the point was a good result, or do you have the feeling that you could have taken the victory?
I'm never happy if I don't win. I am a coach who likes to win, I do not interpret high level competition in any other way. We will see if this point can be considered good, but what I'll take away is the work done by the players. We worked to win, but we have to improve aspects of out play; with the chances we had, we should have been more successful. As I said, we are at the beginning of a process and as the competition progresses the team will grow and improve.
What were you saying to the Cádiz CF fans who whistled Diakhaby?
I was telling them that, please, there is no reason to whistle the player because of what happened. Things happen in football, and it is in the past. They are people; I respect everyone, but the attitude they had towards Diakhaby wasn't fair.
